Look offers up the 927 Alloy Deore/XT Bike as a way for people to easily get on a Look. While the frameset, shock, and wheels, are as full-on as it gets, they found they could build an excellent bike with an eye toward budget and offer it up as high-performing entrífe into 27.5" all-condition riding bliss.
27.5" is where the 927 gets its name. Look has found these wheels to sit in a sweet spot of rolling resistance (low), grip (high), and agility (great).? The frameset they built around them is likewise agile, comfortable, and fast. The 6061 triple-butted aluminum main triangle is there to put the rider in a position that is efficient and not lose any of that efficiency to flex. Everything in the design works toward this goal, from the tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" steerer, to the BB30 bottom bracket, to the oversized 31.6mm seat tube diameter. The carbon-fiber rear triangle, worked by a swing arm and damped by a RockShox Monarch RT3 120mm travel shock is there to take out the bumps, add grip, without losing any energy to bobbing. The stays are designed for vertical flex, meaning the stays take on the small stuff, giving the shock freedom to be finely tuned for the medium and big stuff.
The fork, The RockShox Reba RL, is a great fork for those looking for simplicity. There's 120mm of travel, the Maxle thru-axle, the Motion Control damper, and Solo Air cartridge. These technologies do much of the thinking for you, leaving you with more energy and focus for the ride.
The bike shifts on Shimano, with a mix of Deore and XT, with the higher-quality XT rear derailleur working hard for you while the more economical Deore taking care of the shifting, the front derailleur, and the 11-36 ten-speed cassette. You crank on FSA Afterburner arms and 38/24 chain rings, with a KMC chain doing the driving.
Magura's MT2 brake set does the stopping. It's entry-level hydraulics, but with Magura, it's at a performance level that other companies often fail to meet with fancier offerings. The Carbotecture levers and two-piston calipers are based on the same design you'll find throughout the line, but with materials that save a bundle, but still at a competitive weight. They stop 160mm Storm SL rotors.
Mavic Crossride wheels do the rolling. The Crossrides are classic Mavic, with a reliability and functionality that's hard to meet anywhere else. The smooth-rolling hubs spin on a 15mm thru-axle in front and a 12x142mm thru-axle in the rear. The wheels roll on Conti's X-King 2.2 tires. You'll find this rubber on all the 927's because it's an award-winning all-condition tire, which is perfect for the 927's charter.
Cockpit, as with the 927 XT/XTR is from Syntace. The German manufacturer is great at making strong, svelte components, particularly in aluminum. Here, Look uses an alloy stem, Syntace's Vector 7075 aluminum High 10 bars, and their alloy 31.6mm seat post. The bars are an alloy version of their carbon Vectors, with 10mm of rise and eight degrees of rearward sweep.
When you're ready to start off-roading, armed only with the knowledge of, "yes, I want to do that," the Look 927 Deore/XT bike will take you there and well beyond.
