Look is in the business of building bikes that can take on all conditions and still be great to ride. That's why they based their 927 Carbon frame around 27.5" wheels. The size balances the needs of quick-handling and stability, the ability to roll over stuff and scoot up steep hills.
This philosophy also explains how the bike handles. It is designed with 120mm of travel to take on big hits that can occur trail riding, but it still has a geometry that is great for fast cross-country racing. And the overall design keeps tires embedded on the trail for a ride that excels on complicated, swervy singletrack and steep ascents.
To get to the riding sweet spot, Look mixes elements that add efficiency with those that add comfort. The integrated Look A-Stem adds stiffness, as does the tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" head tube. The frame tubes are right-sized to balance efficiency and comfort while the BB30 bottom bracket standard is used for drive train efficiency and the 12mm thru-axle at the rear dropouts increases lateral rigidity. The seat tube is designed with the 31.6mm diameter in mind, to minimize weight while still maximizing rigidity????ou want the saddle keeping the same distance from the bottom bracket to make sure your pedal stroke is smooth and consistent.
Look designed their carbon rear end for vertical flex. This design allows for the frame to handle much of the smallest vibrations that can come through the wheels. The carbon stays pivot just above the bottom bracket and are attached at the top to an aluminum rocker arm, and are completed with a shock. This design eliminates unwanted bobbing and gives a nice progressive feel to the action. Look chose SRAM's Monarch RT3 shock as their preferred suspension controller. The Monarch is smooth throughout its travel, with great response to the bumps that are too big for the frame to handle and a well-defined three-position lever for major damping adjustments: open, pedal, and lock. There's a Solo Air cartridge with input via a Schrader valve to make sure you can precisely get the ride you want. 120mm of travel in total.
Look utilizes post mounts for the rear disc brake. The set size takes 140mm rotors without an adapter and 160mm with an adapter. For durability, the frame has an embedded down tube underside protector as well as an embedded aluminum shield behind the crank on the right chain stay and a plastic shell protecting the cables and the underside of the bottom bracket. The front derailleur is direct mount. Select the stem along with the frame. As a package the frame weighs in at 2450g with the shock in the Small size. It's a weight that's light without being delicate.
